Myriam KavanaghDublin born artist Myriam Kavanagh has the unique talent of capturing the character, spirit and nobility of her subjects. Her style encompasses a strong palette and broken brush strokes of thickly applied paint bringing life and movement to her works. This assured technique is particularly evident in a work entitled “Trinity” which is a thought inspiring piece depicting the divinity of an androgynous Christ representing mankind watched over by a neutral figure symbolising the love and care bestowed upon all of God’s creations. Also there keeping close watch is a Horse, one of God’s most serenely intuitive animals.

Myriam Kavanagh has been closely associated with horses all her life, and the connection is beautifully reflected in her work. Using a strong palette, her focus lies in capturing the energy and movement of the horse, the character, spirit and nobility of her subjects.

While considering herself predominantly self-taught, Myriam did also study at night, developing a strong foundation studying under various tutors in the National College of Art & Design (N.C.A.D. Dublin), in particular focusing on life drawing for several years. Myriam also studied pure drawing in Cambridge University for a short time.

She has gone on to exhibit in many shows in Ireland, UK and the USA. She has exhibited in London at one of the foremost equestrian galleries, and her work is amongst private collections in Ireland, UK, France, Italy and the USA.

“Myriams new body of work finds her exploring and expanding her ongoing fascination and love of the horse. The work, though similar in style to Myriams previous successful collections, see’s her delve deeper into this subject matter. Here the paint is stripped away to the bone ‘literally’, which glistens with a visceral quality. There are revealing similarities between these ‘Skull’ works and the male ‘Head’ images which are illuminating and which prompt thoughts of the primeval mammal ancestors of the human and the equine. All Myriams work show a rich vitality and development, shot through with a deep passion for her subject”.
